He soars through the night sky, disrupts military aviation, wages holy war against those twin bastions of evil, terrorists and corporate bigwigs. He’s Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), zillionaire industrialist, and he arrives accompanied by the POW!, BANG! and KA-BOOM! suitable for a movie based on a comic book, but with lots more intelligence than the genre usually demands. It’s Iron Man to the rescue, yanking movies and the worldwide box office out of its months-long doldrums and into the stratosphere.

For those of us who are fighting tough-talking lady, anxiety and other demons to the America’s most precious natural resources “, it was a pretty good year for television.

First, there was the return of “The Closer” and Kyra Sedgwick’s sensitive personally, but professionally tough homicide detective. TNT also has given us “Saving Grace”, Holly Hunter, as another persistent detective with personal issues, but these were more in the direction of hard-bitten sex-and alcohol-cigarettes-line. More than FX, Glenn Close and Rose Byrne paired on “damages” to offer two sides of the same coin - ambitious lawyers at various locations on the soul-selling spectrum.

“Canterbury’s Law”, which debuts tonight, Fox has high hopes of joining the parade. Here is Julianna Margulies, who impossible arched eyebrows, the return to television after a long absence as Elizabeth Canterbury, a tough-talking vodka swillin ‘, adulterous defender who stop at nothing to see justice done. Even as her own heart and broke her personal life around them and crashes.
