Lutcher Stark Foundation, which aims to enrich the quality of life in Texas. This valuable ecosystem possessing wetlands, mixed deciduous forest, cypress tupelo swamp, and Ruby Lake also encourages and assists education, mentoring children of all ages to be kind to their world and promotes the growth and appreciation of both arts and nature. It is believed that this unique ecosystem is one of the most earth-friendly projects in the world and is considered the 50th project in the world to earn the U.S. Green Building Council’s Platinum certification for LEED®-NC. This shows that Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center have reached the highest green building and performance measures.
The combination of gardens and nature really offers how people can live in harmony with nature, as well as the opportunity to explore, discover and learn. This school tour program is free and Orange County Schools receive priority in reservations. Of course, schools from outside Orange County can also receive tours but are limited to availability only. The garden and the center were opened to the public last March 11, 2008.
